Roland H Janacek

Roland H. Janacek, 96, of Sandy Creek passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025, after a very full life. He was born February 26, 1929, on Pine Meadow Road in Orwell, NY to Joseph and Elsie Sejnoha Janacek. He graduated from Altmar Union School in 1946. He completed Reisch School of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa that same year.

Roland married Frieda E. Mead of Boylston on April 4, 1953. She passed away in 2020 after 67 years of marriage. They lived the majority of their married life in Sandy Creek. Roland served in the US Army 1954-1956.

He worked as a truck driver in the logging industry in his early years. He was later employed by Carrier Corp., Sandy Creek School in Building Maintenance, then Krakau Implements.

Along with his family, he worked in the auction business for over 50 years. Roland and Frieda also thoroughly enjoyed watching a few generations of families grow up while operating the Pulaski Roller Drome…. “their rink kids”, as they called them. So many memories were made during the 37 years.

He was very active in his church through the years as a trustee, usher, and in maintenance. He greatly appreciated antique tractors, especially of the John Deere variety.

Roland is survived by his children Roxanne & Perry Ferguson, Boylston, Rod & Kelly Rossa Janacek, Sarasota, FL, and Renee & Shawn Garvin, Orwell; His son, Russell M. Janacek, passed away in 2019.

He is also survived by his grandchildren and great- grandchildren: Rachel & Stephen Allen (Logan & Shane), Amanda & Josh Altoran (Adalina, Analise & Avalie), Emily Bushie (Colton, Teghan, & Magnolia), Shannon & Ben Fisher, Mitchell Garvin, and Michael Garvin; his sister, Dolores Hall; a brother-in-law, Herbert Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor La Celle and Wanda Bishop; and a multitude of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Along with his parents and in-laws (Walter & Charlotte Yerdon Mead), he is predeceased by his siblings and their spouses: Sylvia & Carl Candel, Raymond Janacek, Merlin & Charles Kaine, Joseph & Geraldine Janacek, Irene & Beryle Greenfield, and an infant brother, Franklin Janacek.

His sister-in-law, Virginia Smith; brothers-in-law, Herbert Hall, John La Celle, and Gregory Bishop, also passed before him.

Funeral services will be held at Sandy Creek United Wesleyan Church on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 4:00 pm. Calling hours will be from 1:00-4:00 pm at church, prior to service. Burial will be at Boylston-Sandy Creek Wesleyan Cemetery 11:00 am on Monday, October 13.
