Richard A. Rowland, 86, of Lacona, passed away peacefully at his home, with his devoted daughter by his side, on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Born on September 30, 1938, in Syracuse, New York, Richard was the son of Floyd and Ernestine (Zoble) Rowland. He attended South Onondaga High School and, in July 1961, married the love of his life, Martha Skufca, in Lacona, New York. Richard began his career with Sears in 1966, working as an appliance technician. Through dedication and hard work, he advanced to become the Parts and Service Manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1998.
Known for his mechanical aptitude, Richard had a remarkable talent for fixing anything—whether for himself, his family, or anyone in need. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, trips to the casino, as well as hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Apple Valley United Methodist Church and volunteered his time with the South Onondaga and Lacona Fire Departments. He served as an EMT and was also a member of the Fire Police.
Richard is survived by his children, Randolf Rowland, William Rowland, and Sue Billings; his sister, Terry (Robert) Rockwell; and his half-brother, Eric Pease.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Martha; his son, Richard Rowland Jr.; his parents; his brother, Robert Rowland; Charles Zoble; and his sister, Judy O’Connor.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
