Mary E. Witter

Mary E. Witter, age 85, passed away on July 25, 2025.  She was born in Wellsville, NY on July 15, 1940 to Francis and Florence (Gowdy) Witter.  

Mary's only child, Kelley Witter predeceased her.

Mary is also predeceased by three brothers; Frederick, Roger, and Jerome Witter.  Surviving are brother Donald, sister Donna Knowles, sister in law Jan Witter, 10 nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is long time family friend and housemate, Inez Ponzo.

Mary graduated from Addison Central High School and from SUNY Genesee with a bachelor's degree in education.  She taught 4th grade at Tully Central School for over 30 years.

Mary was a lifelong Methodist and also a member of the Ellisburg Fireman's Auxiliary.  For many years she spent her winters at Royal Oaks RV Park with family and friends in Dundee Florida, participating in many activities there.

She loved her dogs, reading, camping, crocheting, and getting together with friends for cards and or dominoes.

Celebration of life will be held at the Ellisburg Fire Hall, 11901 NY-193, Ellisburg, NY 13636, on August 16th at 2pm.
