Madeline S. Mead, 88, of New Haven, New York and formerly of Sandy Creek, New York, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, Thursday evening, December 11, 2025.

Madeline was born July 30, 1937, in Woodhull, New York. She was the eldest of seven children born to Kendal M. and Maggie L. (Stickles) Smith. Madeline attended Woodhull schools. January 20, 1960, she married William C. Mead. The couple made their home in Sandy Creek, where they began their family. Madeline was predeceased in death by her husband on November 9, 1968. In 2005, she moved to New Haven, New York, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mark.

For many years, Madeline was employed at the Redwood Motel in Pulaski. She was a longtime member of the Sandy Creek Grange and took great pleasure in baking and cooking; generously sharing her talents with the community. Over the years, she was especially known for the many pies she made for the Sandy Creek Fair. Madeline will be fondly remembered for her wit and her dry sense of humor.

She is survived by her children: Ellen M. Mead; Daniel H. (Christina) Mead; William C. Mead, Jr.; and Linda M. (Mark) Williams. She is survived by siblings: Joann (James) Holden; Duane (Jean) Smith; Elaine Lampe; Diane Greisch; and Robert Smith; as well as four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and their families. Madeline was predeceased by her husband, William C. Mead, Sr.; her sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Charles Strong; and her brother-in-law, Dean Lampe.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sandy Creek.
