Kevin M Barker

Kevin M. Barker, 73, of Hamlin, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, May 22, 2025, following complications from a fall. Kevin was born June 20, 1951 in Watertown, NY, to Oren, Jr. and N. Marie (Lindsey) Barker and grew up on the family farm in Boylston, NY. He graduated from South Jefferson Central School in 1970 and Alfred ATC in 1972. He worked at the foundry at Alfred and Ribstone Silo while attending college. He also served in the Army Reserves.

On August 25, 1973, Kevin married Diana Slade. They were happily married for 44 years. For most of his life, Kevin worked as an independent general contractor in the Rochester, NY area, where he and his beloved wife Diana lived.

Kevin enjoyed spending time with friends and family and liked to take his nieces and nephews hunting and fishing. He always had time to visit with his brother Ronnie when he was in the area. Kevin was a very independent rare breed of a man in his natural habitat all the way from the backwoods of Tug Hill to the St. Lawrence River to the suburbs of the Rochester area. He had the persona and street smarts to fit into and be comfortable in any crowd. He was always ready to step up for an underdog or lend a hand if no more than to put a smile on someone’s face. 

Kevin was predeceased by his wife, Diana (Slade) Barker, on September 28, 2017; parents, Oren, Jr. and Marie Barker Randall; step-father, Vernon Randall; older brother, Ronald Barker; father-in-law, Arthur Slade; mother-in-law, Sylvia (Oberton) Slade; and his brother-in-law, Tommy Slade.

He is survived by six siblings, Vickie (Warren) Chrisman of Lacona, NY, Beverly (Jeffrey) Fonda of New Port Richey, FL, Sherry Moore of Greenville, TN, Janet (Russell) Stevens of Pulaski, NY, David Barker of Boylston, NY, and Joanne (Donald) Erickson of Lorraine, NY; sisters-in-law, Kathy (James) Dupre of Pierrepont Manor, NY, Linda Slade of North East, PA, and Debbie (James) Martin of Saratoga Springs, NY; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Beth) Slade of Greensburg, PA, and Timothy (Michelle) Slade of Boylston, NY; aunt, Melva (Lindsey) Hilliker of Pulaski, NY; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, June 28th at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek, NY, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Sandy Creek United Wesleyan Church, 6224 North US Rt. 11, Sandy Creek. Arrangements are with Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Creek United Wesleyan Church, 6224 North US Rt. 11, Sandy Creek, NY 13145; or Mannsville United Methodist Church, 203 Lorraine St., Mannsville, NY 13661.
