John W McGarghan, II

John W. McGarghan II, 79, of Sandy Creek, New York, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Oswego Hospital.

Born on August 17, 1946, in Essex Junction, Vermont, he was the son of the late John W. and Orpha M. (McFarland) McGarghan. On September 2, 1967, he married Lelia K. Smith in Long Beach, California, while serving in the United States Navy. He was later stationed in Maine before returning to Vermont following his honorable discharge.

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969. Following his military service, he was employed as an engineering technician with IBM in Vermont. After retiring, he and his wife relocated to Sandy Creek, where he enjoyed fishing and the peacefulness of the area.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Lelia “Kathy” (Smith) McGarghan; his daughters, Tracy Desrocher and Kate Roussell and son in law Todd Roussell; his son, John W. McGarghan III; and three cherished grandchildren, Katelyn Roussell, Paige Roussell, and Ryley Desrocher.
