Gerald D Hunter, 86 of Sandy Creek passed away at his home Monday June 22, 2020.
Gerald was born December 16, 1933 in Ellisburg, NY to Stanley and Mary (McHale) Hunter. He graduated in 1954 from the Central New York School for the Deaf in Rome, NY. Gerald married Ella Flansburg in 1956 at Grace Episcopal Church in Cortland. He was employed by Blount Lumber Company in Lacona, retiring after 38 years there.
He and his wife Ella have attended Calvary Baptist Church for the past 10 years and attended monthly meetings of the Utica Civic Association of the Deaf in Rome, NY. Gerald loved spending time with his family, traveling by car and going to his families sporting events.
Surviving are his wife Ella, children; Jeffery (Laurie) Hunter, Jane (David) Peter, Terry (Ann) Hunter, six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, his siblings; Keith, Lee and Marcia and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Marlene, Allan and Glenn.
A Memorial Service will be held July 3rd 11am at Calvary Baptist Church, Pulaski, NY, (social distancing and masks required). Donations may be made in his honor to either Alphonson Johnson Archives and Museum, 730 North Jay St., Rome, NY 13440 or Rome Alumni Association, 730 North Jay St., Suite 2, Rome, NY 13440.
