George L Wurster Jr, age 79, of Pulaski, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. George was born on October 9, 1942 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, the son of George L and Margaret Thornton Wurster. He was a graduate of Cicero North Syracuse High School, attended Lock Haven College and earned his A.A.S degree from Onondaga Community College where he played on the OCC Lazers basketball team. He worked for Firestone Company until 1972 when he and his father purchased the Pulaski Silver Star Market. Together they ran a successful grocery business for many years. Patrons frequently visited the store which was well known for their quality meats, baked beans and salads. Many friends gathered at “The Store” for an early morning cup of coffee or a late night beverage just before closing. George was a meat cutter by trade and after retiring from the grocery business, he continued with this line of work, working at various restaurants and with his brother at G & B Meats where deer season kept him busy. He had been a resident of Springbrook Apartments in Pulaski where he had made many friends over the years there.
George was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years of playing golf at both the Elms Golf Course in Sandy Creek, NY and Cold Springs Golf Course in Mannsville, NY. He also loved fishing and spent many years fishing at his home on Sandy Pond and also ice fishing in Henderson Harbor.
Surviving are his children; Tracey (Jeff) Pirozzolo, Auburn, NY, Heather Wallace, Pulaski, NY, Michael (Monica) Wurster, Seneca Falls, NY, and Alex Wurster, Central Square, NY as well as grandchildren; Taylor, Gino, Luca, Mason, Maggie, Zoey, Mya, Jack and Hudson. He is also survived by brothers John (Sue) Wurster Sun City, AZ and Gary (Barb) Wurster, East Syracuse,NY. George was predeceased by his parents George L and Margaret Wurster.
Friends and family are invited to call from 3:00 - 5:00 on Monday, Jun 13, 2022 at Summerville Funeral Home 1997 Harwood Dr, Sandy Creek, NY 13145. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 pm.
