Eva-Maria Christa Boenning (born Schmoltz) passed away on January 1, 2025. The cause of death was complications from a stroke.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, on January 31, 1935, she majored in History and Classics in High School. During High School she worked in the Gold Division of the Montblanc Pen Company as a Nib Specialist. After completing High School, she served an apprenticeship as a seamstress at the firm of Pelzhaus Karl Greulich in Hamburg, completing the specialization of Furrier in her last year.
In 1956, she married her life-long husband, Heinz H. Boenning, in Hamburg. The couple emigrated to the United States that same year, initially settling in Jamaica, Queens. During the late 1950’s Eva held various positions in the garments industry in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. In the early 1960’s the couple moved to Lindenhurst, Long Island, where Eva became a Home Maker. In 1974, she moved with her family to Mannsville, NY, where she remained until the end of her life.
Eva’s interests included history, politics, cooking and baking (at which she excelled), gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and art. In later years she served as a volunteer at the Mannsville Elementary School, and was a member of the Mannsville Free Library Board of Directors. Very patriotic about her adopted country, her favorite holiday was the Fourth of July.
Eva is survived by her sister, Franziska Philipp, of Halle, Germany; her three children, Jonny Boenning Sr., of Mannsville, NY, Diana Kindred, of Frankston, TX, and Peter Boenning, of LaFargeville, NY; and 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband Heinz, who died in 2011.
Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mannsville. There will be no calling hours. The ceremony will be private.
