David B. Maurer, age 77 resident of Lacona, NY, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 25th at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY. The son of Martin and Darlene (Breese) Maurer, David was born April 18th, 1946, in Watertown, NY. He was a 1964 graduate of Sandy Creek Central School and received a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical education from East Stroudsburg State College in 1972. Throughout his lifetime he served in the United States Navy and Reserves as a Radio Operator as well as being employed with the DOT Dewitt Rail Yard, Department of Environmental Conservation and In and Out Painting Services.
For two decades David officiated Boys' and Girls' high school sports, including football, soccer and softball. He was a member of the Syracuse, Oswego and Jefferson Board of Women's Basketball Officials. As an enthusiastic fan of all sports, he watched his favorite teams with a critical eye and love for the game. He was a fan for all seasons.
David is survived by his wife Mary, his son Kameron, three brothers, George of Sun River, OR, Michael (Danielle) of Applegate, CA, Paul (Kate) of Greenwood IN, eight nieces and three nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, stepmother and brother Peter.
