Terry L Slater, 74 of Sandy Creek, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Oswego County Hospice.

Terry was born October 6, 1943 in Watertown to Lewis and Genevieve (Eddy) Slater. He was a graduate of Sandy Creek Central School in 1963. Terry worked at Blount Lumber for many years and later for Sancona Builders Supply. He married Eleanor Wilcox April 4, 1964 in Sandy Creek.

Terry was a member of the Lacona Fire Department for 40 years with 12 years as chief. He also was involved at the county level as Deputy Fire Coordinator (1976-83), Fire Advisory Board; President of the Oswego County Fireman’s Association in 1974 and member of the Oswego County Fire Chiefs Association.  He received the Honorary Fireman Award in 2006 from Oswego County. Terry had also served as Mayor of Sandy Creek from 1991-98.

Terry enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and working on small engines.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor, daughters Charlene (Mike) Kastler and Tammy (Jeff) Pratt; four grandchildren, Cassandra (Jimmy)Bremm, Melissa Kastler, Thomas Pratt and Theresa Pratt; two great grandchildren Wyatt Bremm and Elliott Bremm; a brother in law Jay Wilcox and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Lois Graham and a brother David Slater.

Calling Hours will be Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Summerville Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Friday January 5th 11am at the funeral home, Rev Jay Wilcox officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Lacona Fire Dept. Burial will be at Ellisburg Cemetery in the spring.

Donations may be made in his honor to the Lacona Fire Dept.
