Pauline J Steele

Pauline Joanne Steele, 96, went to her heavenly home on January 21, 2018.  Known as ‘Aunt Polly’ to most everyone she knew, her devotion to family, friends, and a firm belief in God supported her throughout her life and ultimately gave her peace.

Polly was born to the late Bert M. and Clara Tousley in Pierrepont Manor, NY on July 8, 1921.  She graduated from Mannsville Manor Central School in 1939 and was employed as a practical nurse at Tampa General Hospital. After returning home to care for her father, Polly worked in area nursing homes and provided home care until retiring in 1986 to Sandy Creek, NY.

Polly was dedicated to God and lived a life of service and faith. A member of Union Church, she was immersed in the Christian community and served as a missionary in Haiti for two and a half years. 

Polly was blessed with a large and loving family. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews as well as her treasured companion, friend and caretaker Caroline Jones. She is dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate the fact the she is at peace with her creator.

Polly is predeceased by brothers Ward (Thelma), James Frederick (Barbara), John (Rose), and Paul; sisters Doris (Willis) Sampson and Ruby (Jim) Thompson.

In accordance with Polly’s request a spring burial in Pierrepont Manor Cemetery, and memorial service at Union Church, will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. Her family gratefully declines flowers, but donations may be made to Union Church of Pierrepont Manor, NY.
