Bertha Miller Obituary

Bertha A. Miller, 102, of Sandy Creek, NY, passed away on December 6, 2019, at Seneca Hill Manor in Oswego, NY.  She formerly resided with her daughter in law at 6022 South Main Street in Sandy Creek.

Bertha was born December 6, 1917, in Lacona, NY, to Nora  and Floyd Robbins.  She married Morgan Miller, Sr. on September 30, 1944.

Bertha started her work career as a factory line worker, but eventually  became the cafeteria manager at Sandy Creek Central School until her retirement in 1972.

Upon retiring, Bertha devoted much of her time to taking care of her family, gardening, taking occasional vacations to public gardens, visiting lilac tree parks with her family, and of course, reading.   She was known as  grandma to everyone and loved to interact with the children in her life.

Bertha is predeceased by her husband of over thirty years (Morgan), and her children, Morgan Jr, and Michael.  She is survived by her daughter in law, Suzanne, grandchildren Michele, Eric (Cathi) Miller, Tamara (Brian) Macvean, Teri (Randy) McNitt and their families.  She is also survived by those she lovingly considered her grandchildren in every way: Sami-Jo Washburn, Chrystie Graham, Shawn Zerphey, and Danielle Carter, along with their families; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren whom she also cared for deeply.

Grandma had a personality that drew people close to her.  The nurses and caregivers at Seneca were no exception.  She was considered as grandma to many of them as well.  We want to thank all of them for the wonderful care that grandma received while there.

Bertha was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God in Mexico, NY.  She looked forward to and attended Sunday services when she was physically able. She would speak for days about how friendly the people were and how she felt so welcome from the first day she attended.  When at services, you could usually find her clapping, tapping her toes, and singing along with the worship team as they played.  She always had a smile on her face while at church.

Bertha will sadly  be missed, but her inspiration and caring ways will always be in our memories and in our hearts.  Her influence on our lives will carry on through all of us.

A Celebration of Life  will be Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the Lighthouse Church of God in Mexico, NY at 11:30 with a luncheon to follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the church.
